Volunteers are an important part of the WE in the District’s goal of WE empower all students to achieve post-high school success. Thank you very much for sharing your valuable time and talents with students and staff!
Volunteer
Thank you very much for your interest in being a volunteer in the Beaverton School District!
With nearly 41,000 students in 54 schools, there are many ways a volunteer can help: tutor or mentor a student, assist in the library or cafeteria, help with school beautification projects, judge a science fair, help coach a team and much more.
All volunteers need to first complete an application and background check to create a profile in the district-wide Volunteer Management System. Once a profile is created, volunteers will be able to update personal information, view and sign-up for open volunteer needs, and communicate directly with the school Volunteer Coordinator.
IMPORTANT: All volunteers must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or complete a medical or religious exception to volunteer in any K-12 school. As part of the volunteer application process, you'll be asked to upload your vaccination card or an exception form.
Volunteer Updates

Frequently Asked Questions
English
Why does the Beaverton School District require a Volunteer and Background Check Application to volunteer?
We believe the safety of our students is of the utmost importance. Our parents and community expect us to ensure anyone who comes in contact with their children is appropriate.
Why is the District using a management system?
A comprehensive management system creates a streamlined common application, integrated background checks with subsequent checks every two years, and more flexible coordination of volunteers at multiple locations. The District is using Better Impact. The volunteer access portal is myvolunteerpage.com.
What if I've already completed a background check somewhere else?
You still must complete a BSD background check.
How will background checks be run?
The information needed to conduct the background check is part of the common application. By submitting the application, you are authorizing the District to conduct the background check.
What if I decline to give the information needed for the background check?
Your volunteer request with BSD will be denied.
What proof is needed to be considered fully vaccinated against COVID?
Per OAR 333-019-1030, all volunteers — whether inside or outside, whether during the school day or after-school hours — must receive either the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine OR the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine AND be at least 14 days past their final vaccine dose. At this point, booster shots are not required.
Volunteers who are unable to be vaccinated due to a documented medical condition (including pregnancy) or due to a sincerely held religious belief must submit the required Oregon Health Authority (OHA) exception form.
Medical Exception Form • Religious Exception Form
What if I decline to provide proof of COVID Vaccination?
You will not be cleared to volunteer, and your profile will be archived until either a valid vaccination card or exception is uploaded.
What should I do if my name changes?
Please email johanna_shrout@beaverton.k12.or.us to request a background check under your new name. The approval process must be completed with your new name before volunteering.
Will I be notified when my application and background check are cleared?
You'll receive an email when your application is received and another when your profile has been activated. Your profile on myvolunteerpage.com will be active as soon as you receive a welcome email from the school's Volunteer Coordinator. After that, you'll be able to view and sign up for open volunteer opportunities.
When will I need to resubmit the background check?
As part of the application process, you'll be asked to authorize the District to conduct a criminal history background check every two years during your birthday month. Authorization for subsequent checks can be revoked.
What happens if I don't give permission for subsequent background checks?
If permission is not given, your profile will be archived two years after the initial background check. If authorization for a subsequent check is given at a later date, the profile can be reactivated.
What happens if I am NOT approved to volunteer?
A letter will be sent to the address that you provided. Your name won't appear on any Better Impact page, and you won't be allowed to volunteer.
What happens if I disagree or believe a mistake has been made on the background check?
You'll be asked to bring a confidential criminal background check from the Oregon State Police, at your own expense, to BSD's Public Safety Office. The information will be reviewed for accuracy. BSD is responsible for the safety and security of its students and staff and therefore reserves the right of final decision.
Can I be denied volunteer status even if I haven't been convicted of a crime listed on the District website? BSD reserves the right to exclude any volunteer that it determines would be a potential disturbance to the educational process. Volunteer status can be denied and revoked at anytime by BSD.
With a common application, how will I sign‐up for the volunteer positions that I'm interested in?
Through myvolunteerpage.com, you'll be able to see all open needs at the school(s) that you've selected. From this page, you'll be able to sign‐up and communicate directly with the school Volunteer Coordinator.
How do I create a profile on myvolunteerpage.com?
A profile will automatically be created for you after you clear the background check.
How can I change my volunteer locations?
Please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us to add or remove a school location. If you are no longer volunteering with the District, please send an email notification to this address to archive your profile.
